On Saturday, June 15th, The Legion of Good Will (LGW) was invited to speak at the United Nations’ headquarters in New York City. The event was organized by the Aquarian Age Community, and brought together a number of institutions with consultative status within the U.N. that prioritize actions with an emphasis on the theme of Spirituality.
The LGW representative at the U.N., Danilo Parmegiani, highlighted the importance of giving more priority to universal values and shared principles to help the United Nations to improve the results of the 2030 international agenda. He also presented a text by the LGW’s President, Paiva Netto, titled, “Tearing the Veil of Isis.” This passage deals with the benefits that humanity will achieve by expanding the perspective of human thought through the basis of the Spirit. This opened a greater dialogue on the parallels, tangents and intersections of social change, goodwill, and spirituality as innovative concepts that point to the construction of a more just and solidary society.
Parmegiani, also spoke about an important LGW symbol, The Temple of Good Will. As of 2019, the temple will be celebrating its 30th anniversary. Event attendee, Darcy Sessions, expressed a familiarity with the concept of the Temple of Good Will, drawing parallels with the U.N. Meditation Room. Sessions noted that the creation of Meditation Room, “represent[s] moments in which light descends to the Earth and awakens the consciousness of humanity. This [phenomena] is what happened to the Pyramid in Brazil … when a mobilization was made all over the country, predominantly with the help of women, who came together and raised the resources to build the Temple [of Good Will] in Brazil.”

It is noteworthy that the Legion of Good Will has been associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communication (DCG) since 1994. In 1999, the LGW obtained general consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). With this status, the LGW can participate in debates and present proposals for some of the main meetings of this international organization. The LGW shares its experience of almost 70 years in the promotion of social, solidary and sustainable global development utilizing Ecumenical Spirituality in over seven countries.
