2014: UN opens space for discussion on Education and sustainability

On August 29, the Legion of Good Will (LBV), a Brazilian civil society organization, coordinated a discussion panel entitled Educating Sustainable Citizens — Best practices of Brazil from the Rio+20. The workshop was part of the 65th Annual NGO Conference of the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI), which took place between August 27 – 29 in the UN Headquarters in New York.

2014: “Addressing on-going and emerging challenges for meeting the Millennium Development Goals in 2015 and for sustaining development gains in the future.”

The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) 2014 High-Level Segment, the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, the Annual Ministerial Review, and the Development Cooperation Forum were held from June 30 to July 11 with the participation of the UN Member States, international agencies, and civil society. The Legion of Good Will (LBV), which has general consultative status with ECOSOC, attended this meeting at the UN Headquarters in New York, United States. In this event the Organization presents the GOOD WILL Sustainable Development | 2014 magazine (published in Spanish, French, English, and Portuguese).

2014: United Nations Presents Results of “The World We Want”

On May 16, the Headquarters of the United Nations in New York City hosted a conference, which presented the results of an online global public survey. The results of this survey reflected the opinions of civil society, in regards to the next set of international goals for the United Nations, post 2015. The questionnaire known as “The World we Want” was released globally in partnership with various institutions of civil society. The Legion of Good Will was among these partnered organizations, and mobilized the Latin American population gathering thousands of popular votes.

2014: “Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls”

With the aim of contributing to the 58th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW58), the Legion of Good Will (LBV) presents its main social and educational practices relating to the central theme of the conference: “Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls”. The subject is debated from March 10 to 21, 2014, in the UN Headquarters in New York, USA, by Representatives of Member States, UN agencies, and civil society organizations. In this event the Organization presents the GOOD WILL Women magazine (published in Spanish, French, English, and Portuguese).

2013: Latin American countries debate UN’s development agenda for the coming years

The Legion of Good Will held the 10th Solidary Society Network Multi-stakeholder Forum and 7th Innovation Fair with the support from the UN’s Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN/DESA). The event took place between November 20 and 29 in Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay. The attendees were encouraged to take an active part in the discussions, share knowledge, and sign partnership agreements that collaborate with putting together an agenda directed at sustainable development for the next few years. The results and good practices collected will be presented by the LBV to the ECOSOC during the High-Level Segment 2014.

2013: “Science, technology and innovation, and the potential of culture, for promoting sustainable development and achieving the Millennium Development Goals”.

From July 1 – 4, the 2013 High-Level Segment of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) was held in the Palais des Nations, the UN Office at Geneva (Switzerland). During the debates held on July 3, the Legion of Good Will (LBV) was the first civil society organization invited to open the intervention to the international authorities present at the UN plenary. The theme of the event this year was “Science, technology and innovation, and the potential of culture, for promoting sustainable development and achieving the Millennium Development Goals”. For this event the LBV prepared a special publication, the GOOD WILL magazine, published in four languages (English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish).

2013: Building Partnerships in the Field of Education through Science, Technology and Innovation

On May 16, the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) held a Civil Society Forum entitled “Building Partnerships in the Field of Education through Science, Technology and Innovation”. The event took place in the UN Headquarters in New York/USA and was supported by the Legion of Good Will (LBV) of the United States, the Global Millennium Development Foundation, and The World Association of Former United Nations Interns and Fellows (WAFUNIF).

2013: “Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls”

With the aim of contributing to the 57th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, the Legion of Good Will (LBV) presented its main social and educational practices relating to the central theme of the conference: “Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls”. The subject was debated between March 4 and 15, 2013, in the UN Headquarters in New York by Representatives of Member States, UN agencies, and civil society organizations. This year the Organization shared its main socio-educational practices and proposals regarding the central theme of the conference by means of the GOOD WILL Women magazine (published in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish).

2012: “Promoting productive capacity, employment, and decent work to eradicate poverty in the context of inclusive, sustainable, and equitable economic growth at all levels for achieving the Millennium Development Goals”

From July 2-6, 2012, the Legion of Good Will (LBV) participated in the High-Level Segment of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at the UN Headquarters in New York. During the meeting, authorities and representatives of member countries discussed the theme “Promoting productive capacity, employment, and decent work to eradicate poverty in the context of inclusive, sustainable, and equitable economic growth at all levels for achieving the Millennium Development Goals”. For this event the LBV prepared a special publication (available in English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish) presenting its experience in promoting sustainable development and opinions of authorities and renowned researchers.

2012: United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio+20

From June 13 to 22, 2012, the Legion of Good Will (LBV) participated in the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio+20. The event that took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, marked the twenty years since the 1992 Rio Earth Summit, whose main objective was to renew political commitments to sustainable development and poverty eradication. On June 17, the LBV, with the support of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN/DESA), held the Constructive Cooperation thematic panel, which brought together businesspeople, authorities, and delegations from countries such as Brazil, Burkina Faso, China, North Korea, South Korea, Ethiopia, the United States, Ghana, the Netherlands, Iraq, Japan, Morocco, Niger, the United Kingdom, Syria, Suriname, Taiwan, Togo, Tunisia, and Turkey. The meeting mobilized the population attending the Rio+20 Conference to think about sustainable solutions for our Planet.

2012: “The empowerment of rural women and their role in poverty and hunger eradication, development and current challenges”

Between February 27 and March 9, 2012, in the Headquarters of the United Nations in New York, the Legion of Good Will (LBV) took part in the 56th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). The central theme of the event was “The empowerment of rural women and their role in poverty and hunger eradication, development and current challenges”. For the event the LBV sent to the international authorities and delegations its magazine GOOD WILL Women (published in English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish).
