“Friends of Jesus”
This was how the team of the LGW of the USA was called during the humanitarian action it carried out in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.
The Legion of Good Will of the United States provided support for the population of Puerto Rico through the distribution of emergency supplies to residents of Mambiche and the surrounding area who had been affected by Hurricane Maria.
The tragic phenomenon left our brothers and sisters in Puerto Rico without water, food, and electricity. Many even lost their homes. In addition to material help, the Good Will Legionnaires offered words of comfort and handed leaflets with prayers and messages to help spiritually strengthen those struggling to get back on their feet.
Omaira Rios, after receiving the prayer, had a moving gesture of gratitude. She asked to have her picture taken with the “Friends of Jesus,” as she called the LGW’s Solidary Team. The initiative was carried out in partnership with local and U.S. humanitarian organizations, volunteers from New York and New Jersey, and JetBlue Airways, which once again helped the LGW transport the donations.
The Puerto Rican army also supported this emergency campaign by lending a truck to the LGW’s team of volunteers in order to distribute the donations.
SOS Disaster
The LGW’s Disaster Relief Campaign seeks to offer immediate assistance to communities and families affected by natural disasters in several countries. At the end of September 2017, the Organization benefited children victims of Hurricanes Harvey (Houston, Texas) and Irma (Immokalee, Florida) by handing out hundreds of school supplies, in partnership with local schools located in low-income areas.
