A Real Story from the LGW's Puerto Rico Mission
The Love of a Mother for her Kids
" Mom, I don't want to complain, but I cannot sleep because I am hungry".
Said the 10 year-old daughter of Veronica, a victim affected by hurricane Maria and resident of Puerto Rico. It was ten weeks after Maria hit Puerto Rico, as a category 5 hurricane, that our relief team, while on the ground distributing emergency supplies in the city of Humacao, realized that the destruction is still very evident.
During one of the distribution rounds, we saw a car following our truck. We stopped to see who it was, only to find out that it was a family who was desperately in need of food and water. It was then that we learned about the family of four, Veronica, a single mother of three kids including a newborn, with special needs and a colostomy after a recent surgery.
For days her daily struggle was to scavenge for food and supplies. She shared with us how the night before coming in contact with the LGW’s Relief Team, her daughters were not able to sleep because they were hungry and went to bed without having any food or water. These conditions motivated her to go out and seek help. Thanks to the support of donors like you that our team was there to provide her with much needed supplies and comfort.
