When Solidarity Alleviates Hunger!
Another Successful Hunger Relief Campaign
Kind-hearted residents from New York and New Jersey came together to help children and families in need smile this holiday season. This year in particular, our “Annual Hunger Relief Campaign” crossed borders and not only provided goods to families in our area, but also reached the families affected by hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, thanks to our partnership with JetBlue Airways and generous donors like you.
During the second week of December 2017, our relief team of LGW’s staff members and volunteers, hand-delivered emergency supplies, along with non-perishable food, to alleviate the suffering of communities in extreme vulnerability in the towns of Mambiche, Mariana and Tejas in Humacao, Puerto Rico.
This act of love continued, and just before the Holiday December break, our Christmas Food baskets were presented to the families of Oliver Street, Ridge Street, and Lincoln Avenue schools, as well as, to residents of the YMCA Shelter in Newark, New Jersey. Virginia Peñalosa, a mother of three expressed her gratitude:
"Thanks for the food basket that I'm going to share with my family. It's the first present that I received this Holiday season."
As always, thanks to the support of our donors, partners, and volunteers, our Everlasting Christmas Campaign, and the 10 tons of food distributed in Puerto Rico has set a new record of love and solidarity!
